I recently began using my BlackBerry Pearl 8100 instead of my first gen iPhone. Nobody understands why, and this is how I try and explain it: I’m a cellphone enthusiast. Just like cars or anything else, really. If I had a Ferrari F430, I would still drive my old Fiat 500. Or for the rest of you, just because you own a Wii, you’d still appreciate original Nintendo, right?

Moving on.

My Pearl has its issues. Horrible alarm feature (the alarm sounds can’t be heard without being wide awake and placing the speaker right up to your brain… which doesn’t matter anyway since the alarm rarely goes off when it’s supposed to), it takes nine weeks to reboot, et cetera. It’s newest issue really has me stumped though.

When I set a font, it lasts for about three hours (depending on the font) and then it slowly begins to change to different fonts. Like, one letter at a time. And after a few minutes, all of my text looks like a ransom note.

Anyone else experience this? C’mon, speak up. You didn’t always use an iPhone!

At first I was thinking of the Eos and then I started trying to imagine a MR VW. I’d expect it to have the same AWD system as the R32 but a rear-drive version would be pretty sick. They could even call it Mister Volkswagen. (Get it? MR VW? I know, that’s a horrible name.)

Could it be justified that this is it’s own sort of terrorism? If people get nervous every time they see someone with a camera? Or if I, as a photographer, have to worry that someone’s going to call the feds every time I take a picture?

I like the minimalism. Pretty cool.

I see a lot of neat things on my dashboard everyday but this is one of the things I would actually use. (And Instapaper, which I use a lot.)

Honda’s new ads for the Pilot are pretty funny too. Especially this one, which we saw during the previews for The Dark Knight, because if I’m not mistaken, we saw this same ‘car-crushing’ truck twice in the last two weeks.

Number plates

Ben and I were discussing number plates, and he suggested I move to a place where number plates are in Comic Sans. I don’t think such a place could ever exist outside of bad cartoons.

Anyway, I countered with a much better idea—number plates written in Wingdings. Imagine a highway patrolman running your tag with dispatch. “I need a check on Mississippi plate, MAILBOX AMBULANCE SMILEY AIRCRAFT POINTING FINGER.”
